LASIK has helped countless men and women to achieve better vision. You could be next. Are you a good candidate for LASIK surgery in the Pacific Northwest?

Below, discover five important criteria for LASIK surgery.

The Right Age

Not too old and not too young, LASIK is best performed on adults in the prime of their lives. LASIK is typically done on adults that are at least 18 years old. Often, we wait until patients are in their mid-20s since eyesight often changes during young adulthood.

As long as you’re healthy, there is no upper age limit for LASIK. Many adults experience age-related eyesight changes starting in their mid-40s, a condition known as presbyopia. LASIK is still safe for these patients, but may not be the most effective choice. Dr. Will may recommend other options like Lifestyle LASIK.

Stable Vision

Does your vision prescription change every year? LASIK is most effective on patients with stable vision. If your eyesight is changing, it may be best to wait until things settle down for your procedure.

Not Currently Pregnant

Pregnancy is a time for change, and that includes your eyes. Hormonal changes during pregnancy and breastfeeding can alter the shape of the cornea. Additionally, some of the medications needed for LASIK aren’t studied in pregnant women, and we don’t know how they affect a growing baby.

Wait until you are no longer pregnant or breastfeeding to schedule your LASIK consultation with Dr. Will.

Healthy Body and Eyes

LASIK safety is one of our priorities at Will Vision and Laser Centers. We know that your vision is invaluable. Making sure that your eyes and body are healthy is vital for good LASIK results.

The following conditions may affect your ability to have refractive surgery:

  • Dry eyes
  • Uncontrolled diabetes
  • Autoimmune diseases
  • Glaucoma
  • Keratoconus

If you have health conditions, come in for a consultation, and we can talk about options. These conditions don’t automatically disqualify you from LASIK surgery; they mean that we need to spend some extra time making sure surgery is safe before we proceed.

Educated and Informed

We want you to be delighted by your results after LASIK surgery. The patients that know what to expect and have realistic expectations are the happiest after surgery. As you prepare for LASIK, spend time learning about it. Our website is filled with helpful resources so you can learn about the procedure.

Not a Candidate? It Could Be Your Refractive Surgeon

The best way to determine if you’re a candidate for LASIK is to schedule a consultation. Dr. Will is one of the premier providers of refractive surgery in the Pacific Northwest. He uses advanced technology, making clear vision accessible to many patients that have been told they aren’t good candidates at other practices. Come meet with Dr. Will before you give up. Call our office at (877) 542-3937 or schedule a consultation today!

Your eyes change throughout your life. Your vision needs at 20 aren’t the same as your vision needs at 70. One thing does remain stable, no matter your age: Good vision is always worth investing in.

Learn how LASIK and other vision correction procedures can keep your eyes at their best throughout your lifetime.

At What Ages Is LASIK Most Common?

LASIK surgery is one of the most common eye surgeries performed. It is FDA-approved for patients over the age of 18, but it is usually best to wait a little longer. The eyes change dramatically in early adulthood, and many younger patients don’t yet have a stable prescription. Your vision should be stable for at least a year before you consider laser eye surgery.

LASIK is most common in patients between the ages of 20 and 40, but people can have this procedure performed at other ages, too. Dr. Will regularly performs this procedure on adults in their 50s and 60s with excellent results.

Traditional LASIK isn’t the only option for vision correction. Older patients may benefit from other treatments, too, including corneal inlays for presbyopia and dry eye treatments. As your vision needs change, the options that are available to you change as well.

Age is just a number. Consulting with an experienced LASIK surgeon is the best way to determine if you’re a good candidate for LASIK surgery.

Top Vision Correction Treatments at Every Age

Your vision needs change throughout your life. Explore some of the most common vision correction treatments performed by age.

  • 20s: On patients in their 20s, LASIK surgery is one of our top procedures. When you choose LASIK early in life, you can enjoy the benefits of better vision for many years to come. Make the most of your LASIK investment by getting the surgery in this decade.
  • 30s: In the 30s, LASIK is highly popular. Many patients in this age group have achieved career security and find it easier to earmark the extra money needed for laser surgery.
  • 40s: Dry eye symptoms become more common in the 40s. In addition to LASIK, we also provide dry eye treatments to patients in this age group. Presbyopia, an age-related vision change, may start to occur.
  • 50s: By the 50s, most patients have some age-related vision concerns. LASIK is still a possibility for most patients. Lifestyle LASIK is a specialized procedure created by Dr. Will that provides correction for both nearsightedness and farsightedness.
  • 60s and beyond: If you’re in good health, there’s no reason LASIK surgery wouldn’t be a possibility in your 60s, 70s, or beyond. Dr. Will works with many older patients, providing the vision they’ve always wanted and helping to resolve age-related vision changes.

Achieve Clearer Vision at Any Age

Since Dr. Will customizes LASIK surgery to each patient’s needs, he can perform it for people of many ages.
